NYBC organizes successful Champlain Canal ride

A warm & sunny Sunday morning was the pleasant setting for a group bicycle ride along the Champlain Canalway Trail corridor near Schuylerville, NY. John Vendetti, NYBC Board Member, was the chief organizer of the ride, which was produced In collaboration with the NYS Canal Corporation.  Mr. Vendetti, of American Heritage Bicycle Tours, used his deep historical knowledge to craft a scenic route to important Revolutionary War sites.  Riders were treated to an educational presentation at the Saratoga National Historical Park and a steep climb up the Saratoga Monument.  Said one participant, “What better way to see and hear about our nation’s history than by a casual bike ride to various sites with excellent historical summaries given at each stop.”

Brian Kehoe, NYBC’s Executive Director, provided snacks and drinks and drove the support van.  Kehoe said “The Ride was a productive collaboration with the Canal Corporation. It highlighted the historical and active recreational resources of the Champaign Canalway Trail Corridor. Bicycle recreation is an important part of upstateNew York’s economy.”  John DiMura, Trails Director for the NYS Canal Corporation, stated “It was a good partnership that will hopefully grow in the future.”

Thanks to everyone for participating in the Ride and see you next year on “The Champlain Canal and the Revolutionary Road to Saratoga.”
