The training is designed specifically for leaders and potential leaders of state and local bicycle advocacy organizations. This event is hosted by the New York Bicycling Coalition and the Thunderhead Alliance. This will be a day and a half workshop focused on building effective organizations. We will start by examining successful bicycle advocacy initiatives currently underway, pare these down to what attendee/leaders believe their organizations could undertake and end with attendees putting pen to paper for a draft of their organization's work plan, starting that day. "This is a great opportunity for organizations like the New York Bicycling Coalition to share trials and tribulations" said Jesse Day, Executive Director of the New York Bicycling Coalition a statewide bicycle advocacy organization based in Albany. "The NYBC will learn techniques on how to make bicycling safer, encourage more active and healthful modes of travel and coordinate with other states - to find out what works" said Day. "The recent announcement of a $600,000 plan to repave and widen the Mohawk-Hudson Bicycle Path is very exciting and will be mentioned to the advocacy leaders as a success story in the Capital Region" The professional trainers and master of ceremonies will be Gayle Cummins former executive director of the Texas Bicycle Coalition and Ron Milam, former executive director of the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition, now with the Enterprise Foundation in NYC.
----- The New York Bicycling Coalition is the only statewide organization that works towards increasing bike safety through improved infrastructure and safety education. The Coalition represents the interests of over 300,000 bicyclists in New York State. For more information call Jesse Day at 518-436-0889 or visit our website at www.nybc.net.
