THE NEW YORK BICYCLE COALITION HOLDS SAFETY SEMINAR Workshops and Presentations Address Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety

The New York Bicycle Coalition (NYBC) will hold a free cutting-edge workshop on bicycling and pedestrian safety on Thursday, September 9 at Steele memorial Library, 101 East Church Street, Elmira. The event takes place from 1pm to 6pm; food and refreshments will be provided.

Featured presenters include: Jay Schisell of Elmira Chemung Transportation Council and Phil Haberstro of New York State Physical Activity Coalition. Presentations and workshops will focus on local, state and federal issues, building community health and capital, and handouts of safety products available from 3M. Jesse Day, NYBC, and Jeff Olson, Trailblazer, will give a special presentation on bicycle and pedestrian friendly communities and how to create the infrastructure needed for better roads.

The NYBC bicycling and pedestrian safety workshops build relationships between localities and state and federal road planning experts to jointly address the vexing cycling and pedestrian access issues. The workshops also establish a dialogue between advocates, local officials, and state and federal transportation experts so they may continue planning better cycling and pedestrian facilitates.

The New York Bicycling Coalition is a statewide cycling advocacy group that works to promote safe, effective cycling for all New Yorkers. The NYBC represents the interests of more than one hundred bicycling clubs, with a combined membership in excess of 75,000 members throughout New York State. The NYBC Board includes transportation planners, engineers and business people, bicycling enthusiasts and provides the organization with hundreds of years of technical experience in the development and evaluation of safe bicycling and pedestrian programs.

Workshops are made possible through a grant from the Governor's Traffic Safety Committee.

For more information or to sign up for a workshop, please contact Jesse Day at 518-436-0889 or visit www.nybc.net.
