NEWS RELEASE

Jacobs sponsors bicycle safety workshop

Nassau County Presiding Officer Judy Jacobs (D-Woodbury) joined with the New York Bicycling Coalition to host a free bicycle and pedestrian planning workshop to present the latest state of the art solutions for accommodating cyclists on Nassau’s roads and bikeways. The workshop was held at the Aquatic Center meeting room at Eisenhower Park. “I would like to see Nassau County’s roadways become more ‘bike friendly’ to the over 10,000 cyclists who use them each year,” said Jacobs. “This workshop goes a long way in moving us towards that goal.” According to statistics, Nassau County has one of the highest bike and pedestrian accident rates in New York State. The workshop included a special visual presentation on local streets, as they currently exist and what they would look like after bikeways and walkways are added. “Nassau County was fortunate to be one of only four locations in the entire state of New York chosen for this valuable workshop,” said Jacobs For more information call Legislator Jacobs at 516-571-6216 or to learn more about the New York State Bicycle Coalition, call 518-436-0889.

The New York Bicycling Coalition is the only statewide organization that works towards increasing bike safety through improved infrastructure and safety education.
