Events Calendar
Our largest publication, 50,000 copies are distributed throughout the state at major bicycling events, tourism bureaus, local bike shops, bicycling clubs, and directly to members by mail. In addition, an electronic version is featured on this site and updated throughout the season.
For annual ad rates and pricing information, consult our 2010 Rate card, or email Joshua directly at joshua@nybc.net. An advertisement in the Events Calendar brings prominent exposure of your business, club, ride or event to a vast cycling audience. An eighth-page advertisement costs approximately 1/2 cent per bicyclist reader, which is one of the most cost-effective ways to let cyclists know about your event or business. We place your ad in proximity to the events in your NYS tourism region.
NYBC utilizes the Events Calendar and website to promote cycling-related businesses and organizations as they supports our bicycling advocacy efforts. We’d love your input!

SUBMIT A 2010 BICYCLING EVENT FOR THIS CALENDAR
Submit your 2010 bicycling event to our online edition using the link above. This is a free service provided by the New York Bicycling Coalition. If submitted before 3/12/10, your event will be included in both the print and electronic versions of the Events Calendar, as well as listing on www.cyclotour.com. Events submitted after 3/12/10 will only be included on the online edition.
Criteria for inclusion: a major bicycling event is open to individuals other than the club or sponsoring organization’s members and may have sponsorship support from a business or a public entity. A fee may or may not be charged. It might benefit another group (charity or otherwise), a bike club, the sponsoring organization, or the bicyclist. Regular or intermittently (e. g., once a month) scheduled club rides are listed only if they have a significant purpose and at the discretion of this Calendar’s compiler.
Thank you to Cyclotour for assisting in the ride listing. Thank you also to the NYBC member bike shops and advertisers for supporting our NYBC Events Calendar.

The public is invited to attend a presentation on “Complete Streets – Creating Safer Communities for Bicyclists and Pedestrians,” to be held in conjunction with the next meeting of the Sustainable Saratoga Task Force on Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at the Saratoga Springs Public Library from 4:00-6:00pm. The event, hosted by Saratoga Healthy Transportation Network and the Sustainable Saratoga Task Force, is open to the public.

The meeting is open to anyone interested in learning more about how to improve access and safety for bicyclists and pedestrians in our local communities. Ms. Chaplin will present from 4:00-5:00, followed by a meeting of the Sustainable Saratoga Task Force from 5:00-6:00. Due to the room size, reservations for the presentation are appreciated. Public Hearing Scheduled Regarding NYCDCP’s Secure Bicycle Parking Facilities Initiative February 4th
A public hearing will be held on February 4, 2009 on the Department of City Planning’s (DCP’s) initiative to require secure parking for bicycles in new multi-family residential, commercial and institutional buildings throughout the New York City. The proposed new zoning text would encourage bicycle ridership by providing a long-term and secure place to store bikes at home and at work.
Recent studies by City Planning have found that the lack of safe and secure bicycle parking is a leading factor preventing people from cycling to work. In addition, the lack of bicycle storage facilities in residential buildings can make bicycle ownership impractical. The proposal is the most comprehensive bike parking zoning requirement of any dense U.S. city and will cultivate a more green and healthy urban environment. It is part of a coordinated multi-agency effort with the City Department of Transportation (DOT) to promote New Yorkers’ use of bicycles, which is a key component of Mayor Bloomberg’s strategy for a cleaner, healthier city.
The hearing will take place at 10 AM at Spector Hall, 22 Reade St., New York, NY 10007. Anyone wishing to speak on the proposal, or any of the other items on the calendar, can do so by filling out a speaker card available outside the hearing chambers on the day of the hearing. For more information on both the hearing and bicycle parking text amendment, visit http://www.nyc.gov/planning.

His discussion will also include bicycle tourism, Bike Recycle Vermont (Local Motion’s co-op) and ideas on how to make communities more bike-friendly.
Sponsored by Saratoga Healthy Transportation Network, the presentation is free and open to the public. It will be held in Saratoga Springs Public Library’s Dutcher Community Room. For more information, email info@healthytransportation.org or call 518-577-0286.

March 3rd & 11th: Park and Trail Advocacy Days

Parks and trails are taking a hit in this year’s state budget. Cuts are proposed for the Environmental Protection Fund (EPF) and the capital and operations budgets for State Parks. The Hudson River Valley Greenway is slated for elimination. Consult PTNY’s Advocacy Agenda for more details on these and other important threats to our state’s parks and trails.
PTNY urges, “We must speak out for the importance of parks and trails. Your legislators need to know how their budget decisions will affect your community. Join us!!! Your participation will help make our Advocacy Days a success and secure much-needed funding and support.”
