On Saturday May 30th, Troy Bike Rescue (TBR) will host Bike Fest, its 5th annual fundraiser and bike party. This celebration marks 5 successful years of the all volunteer-run, not-for-profit organization’s work in North Central Troy. TBR’s volunteers run weekly shop sessions at the ‘Wheelhouse’ at 3280 6th Avenue, including: Open Shop, a time for adults to learn skills, earn bikes, and make repairs; Youth Shop, geared towards youth ages 10-15 years old; and Femshop, an open shop session dedicated to the empowerment of women and trans-folk on the topic of bike maintenance.
BikeFest BikeRide & Troy Samba
Troy Bike Rescue volunteers will lead a tri-county family-friendly group bicycle ride parts of Lansingburgh, Waterford, Green Island, and Troy. Riders will meet in Freedom Square at 3pm and depart at 3:15. It is a casual 10 mile route, good for all riders. The returning riders will be greeted at Freedom Square by everyone’s favorite Brazilian Samba ensemble, Troy Samba at 5pm. Participants are advised to bring water, snacks and sunblock for yourself if needed.
Dinner, Raffle, Cake Auction & Live Music
A delicious burrito bar will be prepared by the TBR volunteers with the guidance of local food writers and educators Amy Halloran and Ellie Markovitch. Beer will be provided by the one and only Rare Form Brewery. There will be raffle prizes from local businesses. The night will be rounded off with the annual cake auction with a live auctioneer and cakes contributed by many local bakers and bikers.
