NYBC advocates for pro-bicycle policies NYBC monitors legislation at the local, state and federal levels. We educate legislators about specific policies that bicyclists need to in order to be safe and to feel respected. We remind policymakers that bicyclists are voters, tax payers, business people and key members of the community and that they expect the same level of service as motor vehicle drivers.

The League of American Bicyclists education program is the only nationally-recognized bicycling education program with certified instructors. Its hallmark is on-the-road training with an emphasis on learning to ride safely and effectively in all conditions of road and traffic. The Traffic Skills 101 nine-hour certification course gives cyclists the confidence they need to ride safely and legally in traffic or on the trail. The course covers bicycle safety checks, fixing a flat, on-bike skills and crash avoidance techniques and includes a student manual. Recommended for adults and children above age 14, this fast-paced course prepares cyclists for a full understanding of vehicular cycling.
